I spotted this leftover church steeple along Oconee Street on the way back from lunch at Mama's Boy. The picture doesn't quite do the locale justice, but it was difficult to capture - in an interesting way - the street 10 yards away, the building about 10 feet away, and the apartment complex parking lot in which it sat. Wonder what the rest of this building looked like?

There has been considerable debate in Athens about whether this steeple is worth saving.... I think REM performed in that Church or something originally.
Well, you know my views on saving old things. The R.E.M. tie would explain the extensive R.E.M. graffiti on it. I hope they either keep it or move it somewhere - it's too cool to just tear down!
it almost looks Asian or Japenese-inspired somehow in this picture, which definitely seems "out of place" to me.
my mother lived there in college. no lie. and yep, REM did play their first shows there and recorded some songs there as well.
